About Me

My name is Tina Winkle, a.k.a. Twinkle Teaches.   I am from the great state of Oklahoma.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Nazarene University in 2000. I majored in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I am proud to say I am the first person in my family to graduate from a university.

I received my Master's Degree in Reading and Curriculum/Instruction in May 2013. I taught for 9 years (grades Prek through First Grade and summer school Prek-12th) and was a literacy coach/Reading Specialist for 2 years working with grades Prek-12th. This past year I was an instructional coach for the Oklahoma State Department of Education. I have a HUGE love of literacy and love to help others.

I was inspired to teach because my second grade teacher, Mrs. Manes, gave me a passion for reading. I wanted to be like her and inspire others to love exploring literature. I started to ask my parents to take me to the local library once a week. I became a bit of a fanatic about it.

I even tried (confession!) to teach my dog how to read. I was very frustrated when he did not, and always hopeful if he made a sound while I held the book in front of his face.

My favorite part of the day when I was teaching was when we would engage in our literacy centers. I really think my most challenging students ended up being the ones I missed the most when they moved up a grade!

I am now a freelance instructional coach/reading specialist working from home while currently homeschooling a 5th grader. Got a question? Have a tip or great idea? I am here to help and share! My email address is twinkleteaches@gmail.com ! I usually reply within twenty-four hours and if I don't know the answer I will find it out for you. :) Thanks for visiting!
