The bees knees

Photobucket
H stomping around in my cousin's work boots!
I haven't been up to much.
Harrison had a playdate yesterday with AJ and AT. Then today AT came over and they watched The Wheels on the Bus video. Normally I have a high tolerance for kiddie videos, but I found myself fighting the dozing off feeling on this one! Harrison wants to watch it repeatedly, too. Have you ever watched a kid video so much that the songs get ingrained in your mind??? Yep, this video is like Barney but instead of a dinosaur the lead character is a dragon and he drives a bus. I need to make a kid video! I would totally have Dan Zane or Laurie Berkner singing and NO annoying puppet characters.
I stayed up too late last night taking an online class for art. I am trying to learn some new techniques because I feel like my papercrafting just needs to grow more...I need to step out of my comfort zone. Challenges are good!
I have a dream. I want to be one of those crafty moms. You know the type that sews, crochets, embroiders, scrapbooks, quilts, etc. I am aspiring for this. I know I won't be able to do it all but I feel like I should expand from just scrapbooking being my only hobby. It is good to have more than one hobby, right??
Okay, so you might need eye bleach after this but I have to share my killer bee photos!
(See previous posts for backstory).
Photobucket
Here he is attacking the dead honey bee. I think it is hard to tell them apart in this pic.
Photobucket
Okay, better pic. He is on bottom.
Photobucket
Here he is on bottom again. He is skinnier than the honeybee. And has a temper!
So we left a message with the task force about him, but killer bee has passed (finally) so it is not a big deal.
Oh, and we added a drowned wasp to the collection today.
The whole collection bugs me (no pun intended).
Sometimes I think it will mysteriously disapper into the same receptacle annoyingly loud toys go to!!!!
But my son loves it so much that I just have to grin and bear it!
Here's some pretty for you~
Vintage lace I bought the other day.

My mom brought me flowers today. Isn't it nice to get a bouquet for no reason? They smell lovely. Anyway, Kitson is fascinated with them and I was able to snap a pic of him because for once he was standing still!

Duck and shuffle baby!

Okay, first let's talk about the scary stuff that happened this weekend...
I have blogged some about my son Harrison's bug collection, right? Well, our rule is all bugs must be found dead to be added to the collection. No Raiding or anything going on. So my husband Ben cleaned out the pool and found an unusual looking bee. It was dead. He brought it inside and showed it to us. It looked like a bee but was skinnier and more darker in color. We added it to the collection. The next day I look at one of my son's collection containers and see it moving!!! WTHeck?

I go up to it and it is not moving so I think my eyes must be playing tricks on me...so I shake the box and it starts moving again!!! And it starts *attacking*the dead honey bee that is its roomate!!! Google to the rescue---we had caught a freakin' KILLER BEE!!!!! A day later and it is still alive and fighting everything in the box! So I found the phone # for the "Africanized Honeybee Task Force of Oklahoma"--yes, there is such a place. We are supposed to call and report our bee (feels so wrong to report him) and I guess they will take him off our hands. Weird how that sucker just resucitated himself. And he is aggressive! If I can keep from freaking out I will take a pic and post it tomorrow sometime.

Now on to scary incident #2...

last night yours truly was watching tv and eating chips and salsa at 3:30am. Tough work, let me tell ya. The doorbell starts ringing like mad. I walk to our bedroom and wake Ben up. I told him what was going on. Living in Oklahoma everyone is armed (and I am against that let me state for the record). So he grabs "ol' bessie" and walks to the door. The doorbell is still ringing. He opens it slightly while I am on the other side of the door...pretend I am holding a banjo, okay? And I say, "who is it?" in a whisper to Ben and he whispers, "lock the door behind me." Heart attack. I grew up in a neighborhood where we witnessed the swat team squat walking down the street to infiltrate an apartment building nearby. I remember duck and cover well. So I had flashbacks to this while holding my cellphone with 91 dialed.

Then being nosey, I decide to go to the other room and try to be subtle about looking out the blinds. Subtle doesn't work for me. So I was relieved when I saw it was just our neighbor talking to Ben. Then I thought, "Is the house on fire or something??" Ben comes back in and tells me that our neighbor Mr.J called the police because he witnessed a man with a tool bag try to break in to the car next door and then moved on to our car! Then the man saw Mr. J (who was out with his dog on doggy potty break) calling 911 and just stood there and stared!!! Then the man ran away. Police patroled but did not find him. This scares me because I was in the living room with the light on and actually had the big screen pretty loud so the criminal had to hear it and see the light on and not care!!! (Boy, that was a run-on sentence). We have gotten *many* signs lately that we should really buckle down and work on moving out of this neighborhood.

Let's transition onto non-scary stuff...

Ben drew these portraits of Harrison and Me awhile back. He also did one of himself but we cannot find it. LOL I know I put it somewhere safe because I wanted to buy a frame for it. I am going to try and be better about sharing his art stuff on my blog.
Anyway here is his drawing of baby Harrison at 6 months.
Photobucket
And this is me. :)

Harrison has been trying to spell with magnet letters. He said, "Look mom, I spelled the word train!!!"...um, not in the right order but a good try. :)

Talula Does The Hula?!?!?

Judge: Girl's name, Talula Does The Hula, won't do
Thu Jul 24, 5:41 AM ET
A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.
Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.
Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.
The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.
"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."
The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.
In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names.
Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said.
New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.

Virtual Tour

Here is a virtual tour of our town.
I did not take as many pictures as I would have liked because it was so stinkin' hot!!

The administration building is ancient. The school was founded in 1910, and previous to that it had been an orphanage. Actually, our whole town was several orphanages.
Photobucket
this is the gym. Our graduation ceremony was in it. When Oklahoma hosted the New Orleans Hornets for a few years after Katrina, they held practice here. I love the track and the workout room in it.
Photobucket
One of the big and older churches in our town.
Photobucket
Okay you have to look closely, but you can see our Purina-design-looking water tower. Old water tower actually. We have a new one. Our town is always identified by the ugly old tower though.
Photobucket
Graffiti with our town name. I wish the pic was better but I can't make cars move LOL.
I was too lazy to take pics of the library, new police station, and downtown area. Nothing exciting really. Thankfully we are an "island town" and surrounded on all sides by the big city!!!
That's our town!

I'm still standing!

Photobucket
Finally got my scrappy hands on this little baybee! Found at Michaels. My husband was shocked by how fast I threw that thing into the basket!!!
I haven't opened it yet because I am still savoring the newness!
Photobucket
I also picked up some salt and pepper shakers at Target. Um, can you believe we had none?!? Ben and I have been married for 5 years and no s&p shakers...funny!
I have to share news about my little man, mr. H...
Photobucket
It is hard to tell in the picture but my little guy has learned to hold his breath and swim under water!!! What? That's insane. Insane but true! He's 3.
My mom signed me up for swimming lessons at 6. I almost drowned that day (not kidding). A kid fell on top of me. :( Boo. I still picture the butt on top of me and thinking it was my last day on Earth.
Photobucket
See this guy? He's cute and he needs a home. I made him for *drumroll please* my big secret project I've been hinting at...yes, it's an Etsy shop! I am hoping to open it this Friday. :) Ben and I have been making stuff together for it. I don't even care if I sell anything, I'll keep it all! LOL
Anyway, I will post the link as soon as it is up and running!
Here is a peek at some embellies I made for it:
Photobucket
We are going to sell vintage stuff,too--not only homemade.
Remember the kettle corn recipe I posted a few posts back??? We made it today and it totally rocked! That stuff was gooooodddd. I am totally putting some in a paper lunch bag and taking it with me next time I go into the movies. Shhh...don't tell. Oh, who are we kidding? They see a mom with a giant bag and they know I have a portable concession stand!
Harrison and A.T. made rainbow lollies yesterday.
Photobucket
Can you tell they are kid made? LOL
Anyway, these suckers are truly addictive...so yummy!
We made our cherry flavor. We wanna do orange and cinammon next!
